So last night I went to a Discoteque and it was awesome. I also went to the Design Museum and walked a great distance to Trafalgar Square.
I booked my trip to Italy with friends on Tuesday night. I may have said this before but we are going to Rome, Florence, then Venice for a full week during our Spring break at the endof February!
I got an internship with Luchford Public Relations firm. They have branches in beauty, fashion, and Property and Restaurants. I will be doing general PR i.e. press releases, product launches and product placement type things. Yay!
It snowed last night and the town flipped out. They just couldn't handle the one inch of snow we got. Ha!

I am working out my work placement assignment. The first one I got was really bad so I will go back and ask for a better company.

I added some new pics of Buckingham palace and westminster abbey and big ben. there is a video clip big ben ringing at 5pm.
Then there are pics of a Goldsmith college birthday party I went to with my friend Kati and Simon (a Londoner)and Geoff (an Aussi). Goldsmith is a really hip art school in London.
I also added a mp3 of the Smith's song "This Charming Man" one of my favorites so far that is very representative of what they play at clubs and parties when they aren't playing american crap like justin timberlake and beyonce.
Fun times.

So after class it was raining so I went to both the Museum of Science where pic one came from and then the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). It was a nice rainy afternoon outing. Then I went back to Harrod's because it was on the way and the second pic is of Harrod's all lit up from the outside. beautiful.
And then ladies and gentlemen... a tear came to my eye as I found the Krispy Kreme on the ground floor of Harrod's and the brit behind the counter handed me a free doughnut. sniff sniff. I took a pic of it too.

Today I rented a clarinet from a music shop by Picadilly so I can now play in the Imperial College Orchestra. I was refused by one shop because I was American and I guess they had bad luck with getting their instruments back when term was over.
Tonight I went to a very cozy blues bar with my old friend Kati by Picadilly but just out of the way enough for it to not be touristy. The area by Golden Square is probably my favorite so far. The streets are narrow and the shops quaint. i have updated the pics- 1 of leicester square and the other of the blues bar "Ain't Nothing But..."
The quality of people was so much better here than all the other places I have been to so far. Everyone was into music and musicians themselves.

It is not all that bad as it sounds. I actually live very frugally during the week. Today I went to the Museum of Natural History right next door and all museums around here are free. This will keep me busy for the next few weeks. I finally bought the last of my required books for class so school shouldn't cost anything more. Buying the tube pass was such a good idea because I use it a lot everyday and I am saving lots of money from that purchase because it works on the buses as well. Here, there are lots of places that accept student discounts and my student card has almost paid for itself already.
Last night, I went to the Imperial Bar and found the kids in Sinfonietta, the IC band. I introduced myself and expressed interest in joining. I took a look at their music and it doesn't seem hard though I am a year out of practice on the clarinet. I will try to rent one or borrow one from the college and I will just show up at the rehearsal next monday. They were all nice and I had to describe where Connecticut was in America. They were like, "Do we know what city you are from? Like from songs about Chicago and Alabama and New York?"
I told them there are reasons why nobody has ever written a song about CT.
I chatted up with the principle clarinetist and she is very nice. She is going for her PHD in chemical biology. (IC is like the MIT of London).
I am all shopped out for now. I have actually figured out a budget for the next 15 weeks that will be no problem. Like I said, kids are spending hundreds on "the drink" so I could be way worse off.
I signed up for an excursion to go horseback riding in Wales. My tix should come in the mail soon.
I went to Oxford Circus last night. That was another big shopping area. I tell you, there are like 10 times sqaures all around london.
Have Tube pass, will travel.

Living Like a Rock Star:
So I just came back from the Barbican area where John must have stayed at City University. It was pretty quit and empty from what I saw. Katrina and I ate at a nice Indian food resteraunt and it was amazing! The service was superb and the food delicious. They cooked the naans in front of us over a flamed cart and there were chutnies I've never tasted before that came with the Papdums. I had lamb korma which was the best I've had in my life. Aparently, "wrapping up" food doesn't exist because they didn't know what to do w/ our food when we asked so they threw everything in one tub and threw out our leftover naans! We got hot towels for our hands after the meal and roses with our check! It cost 22 pounds for the whole thing and it is cusromary to only tip 10%. So for 13 pounds each ($36) it was a great meal all around.
I went shopping on Old Brompton street this morning and got a lot of nice clothes from Harrod's, Harvey Nic's, and other shops. Harrod's is so expensive but 6 floors of everything you can imagine. I was knee deep in the bargain racks pushing and shoving along with the old ladies because I guess January is the only month anything goes on sale... so I will take full advantage of this!
I went to a fun club last night with a group of friends and befriended this one high class dude who has put "Kim & Jenny + 3" on tonight's list for a very hip, EXPENSIVE club in the heart of Picadilly called "cafe de Paris." I find it hilarious that I somehow have this high status contact and now I'm on lists for all these great clubs (that would cost anybody else a $40 cover charge) because this is not me. I am not a "list" person! This cracks me up. I can only hope he is not a pimp.
Well mom is probably having a heart attack right about now, but I just need to live my life out for now as a rock star.

So it ends up I can't access my blog at night so I will write in the afternoon. Classes have started and it is pretty straight forward. It's funny how marketing was really started in America yet I find myself studying it here where they reference many American marketers.
Yesterday I joined the Imperial College student union for 6 pounds. I hope to join the symphonic band at IC playing the clarinet. At any rate, I can now use their facilities as I please.
Last night after class I went shopping on Kensington High Street and the road stretched on forever! I was in my panic shopping mode like a discontent infant because every shop was incredible and streched on for miles! I had to force myself to turn back half way down the road so I could hit the shops on the other side of the street on the way home. I bought some shirts but I am ultimately looking for a nice bag and shoes (surprise surprise).
Sometimes it is overwhelming to think about how big London is. I've accepted that I'll never be able to see all of it while I'm here but this is incentive to come back. I am going to explore Notting Hill now and I will hopefully update my pics tonight.
I also found out where Camden Town is which is the setting for A Christmas Carol. I just need to locate 2 Porter Street. Can you believe there's a Georgiana Street there?!

So I went with a friend to Nottinghill. It is actually quite commercial around there. The shops were ho hum but then we stumbled upon Holland Park which is one of the many parks around. I bought a cell phone there or as they call it "mo-biles." Now I can contact people when I'm out and about.
Then we took the tube and went to Camden. It is soo awesome! I was expecting it to be this quiant little London village but it looks like it is straight from NYC. It looked kinda dirty and there was a lot of noise and traffic. There were hundreds of shops selling T-shirt, shoes, and punk wear. It was cool for me but nothing like the movie. I asked if there was a porter street and the cop said he never heard of it. I also couldn't find Georgiana. I will surely go back during the day time and try to find it.
Katrina and I got lost in the tube for hours. We kept getting on the wrong trains going back and forth and such. But now we are pros. I am weary.

So the pics are now posted on the FTP site that Manish helped set up for me. Go to the link and you can now see what I've been up to. The cruise on the Thames was really nice although it was too dark to see anything. The cruise let us off and friends and I went back to go to pubs in Picadilly and Soho. (Note the pic of me hugging the Tiffany & Co. building that we happened to stumble upon). A half pint is only 1 pound! I see so many kids spending hundreds of dollars on drinks that I am glad I am not a big drinker (although I will surely make up for it in apparel purchases).
Classes start tomorrow and I am looking foward to starting up a routine.
I finally was able to buy some groceries. My total only came to about 6 pounds because I bogus bargain shopped. I made my first meal of eggs, cheese, and crusty bread for lunch.
I have decided that I will go surfing, hiking, and kayaking in Wales as part of the subsidized packages that the social programme here offers.

So I already blew out my one converter plug and I am having technical difficulties with the picture posting because all my files are too large. You'll have to use your imaginations for now. In the meantime Ana and I are huddled on my bed while some maintanance dude is chasing a mouse out from under her bed. (SQUIRREELLLLL!) Time to go on a boat cruise on the Thames. I will give the pics another shot tonight.

Kim is alive!
OK... My 9:10 flight out of JFK was cancelled and a new flight was created because a back up plane just happened to be there. We ended up actually leaving JFK at 3AM (the time we should have been arriving in London).
We got here at 2PM GMT and arrived at the flat by 3.
My roommate was awesome and it was a girl I met while waiting at the gate for 6 hours. The Crofton (my dorm) is the newest dorm that is still being worked on today. It is absolutely gorgeous! Ana and I are in a double with a beatiful bathroom, wardrobes, new beds (and new sheets!), and there is a communal kitchen on our floor that looks like it came right out of the Sharper Image catalogue! I'm telling you, I don't know what I did to deserve such a high quality flat and a chill roommate!
