Jetlagged Blogging

Well it's 2:30 am on 5/31 and my body seems to be in Bangkok time. I returned on Saturday at 1:30PM after the following flights:
Krabi tp Bankgkok
Bankgkok to Tokyo
Tokyo to Chicago
Chicago to Boston

After 30+ hours of straight travel, I wanted to pass out. Next time I will splurge for more direct flights. This was insane. But on the bright side, the trip was awesome and went without a hitch! Here are some pics for all you patient readers!
This is a pic of the floating market right outside of Bangkok. We rode a boat paddled by a person who brought us from floating vendor to vendor. I think we all got a little queasy from the mango slices we bought from a boat vendor who probably washed the fruit in the dirty water. D'oh!

After Bangkok, we went to Krabi then a boat to Koh Phi Phi. I look pretty wind swept in this one. The views were amazing!

This was my idea of paradise. In fact, this was my pose for the whole time with a big smile on my face.

The sun came out for our last day. Hooray!

On our last night in Krabi before returning to Bangkok, we went to a great restaurant for the spiciest food imagineable. It took a tole on everyone else's stomach but mine. Also, our table was over the water so these weird moth bugs kept dive bombing into our food. Gross!

Wedding madness

Though I still have no pictures to post, the past 2 days have been a neverending wedding extravaganza! Festivities were capped off with our friend Amit riding to the hotel following a hired marching band as he rode a horse! I'll post pics when I get back but I have truly never seen anything like this wedding! Though my personal preference would be to ride a small elephant, I'll give Amit a pass at his choice of livestock to make an entrance on.

Today, we are going to tour Bangkok proper and then go to a Thai Boxing match tonight. Then off to a night market and beer garden. Yesterday we went to a tailor and had bespoke suits custom made for us as we picked out our fabric and they took our measurements. I ordered 2 3-piece suits and had 3 shirts made. I can't wait for the final fitting and to see the final product!

Made it!

So we have successfully made it to Bangkok last night after 30+ hours of travel time, 18 hours of which were in flight. Though we were dead tired the next morning, we went to something cool called the Floating Market where you are paddled around in gondolas along a canal and other vendor boats are selling you goods and food. I successfully scored a fake Rolex which looks quite badass on my wrist.

Tonight we are going to the reception of our friends' wedding and in traditional Indian garb, us class mates will perform the Jai Ho dance for all of Amit's family and friends. I will once again be in a sari. Tomorrow we are touring Bangkok some more and going to many temples. It's time for me to crash out before tonight's festivities!

End of School

Well ladies and gentlemen, my first year of B-school is FINISHED! Starting June 8th, I'll be working for Lockheed Martin in Orlando, FL (I know- very random) and I am off to THAILAND tomorrow to attend a classmates' wedding and do some serious relaxing on the beach (again.) I'll try to blog while I'm away!

Sloan Temple Pilots!

I attended the maiden show of the Sloan temple pilots, a band made up
of some of my classmates. They debuted in a Beacon Hill apartment. My
favorite song just might have been their Johnny Cash cover though it
was a bit too oompa-band. Can't wait to see their first real
performance!

Star trek opening!

What better way to spend a Thursday night than to go to the midnight
show of star trek on IMAX! Nerd alert!

Indian c-function

This is 26

I was away in Rhode Island this week for the MIT Sloan Spring Gala. We came back Sunday and celebrated my b-day with Sunday dinner at Koreana, the best Korean BBQ!


This is what 26 looks like. I got to reuse the dress I wore to the wedding in London!

Look at this spread! We had two grills going cooking up spicy pork, pork belly, and bulgogi. Yumm!

Roughing it in Maine

This weekend I'm away with friends in a freakin mansion in Maine. Life
is rough!

Here's us daringly "MIT"-ing on Devil's Bridge. I'm in the M.


Leland and I took out one of the sailboats on the island and sailed along the beach. We were looking to claim new territory or overtake other ships. Yarrrr.

In the middle of the capital of St. John's, there is a huge head statue in memory of VC Bird, the first Prime Minister of Antigua.

We went to Rosie's birthday party while on the island. This is the woman behind the making of Susie's Hot Sauce, the unofficial hot sauce of Antigua. After diagnosing her small business and giving her recommendations and templates on how to better track her sales and expenditures, we nearly cleared out her inventory buying 130+ bottles of sauce from her!

We are sitting in a presentation much like that of the Salem Witch Museum learning about the history of Antigua. I look super tan!

Here's us going out to a posh bar one of the first nights in town. No, that isn't a huge glass of wine, but a very expensive glass of Diet Coke. I paid more for Diet Cokes than people paid for cocktails on the island!

And of course, I couldn't leave Antigua without taking advantage of the duty free shopping! Here is my diamond and tanzanite ring I got for bargain basement prices!

Another great pic at sunset at Shirley's Heights. The sky looks like cotton candy.

You may not be able to tell, but this is a wave crashing up to me as someone tried to take my pic at a place called Devil's Bridge. Slaves on the island would try to escape via the bridge, though often drowned after falling off. You can see why I was so skittish.

Here's me and Leland having a laugh at the little private tables our resort set up on the beach. We were doing our best Vogue poses though I think it is fitting for the next issue of Conde Nast Traveller.

Antigua-nized

Marlon's parents hosted a party for us within the first nights in Antigua. They rented a steel drum band and got catered food, complete with Susie's Hot Sauce! Here is me harkening back to my steel drum days, though clearly I don't remember how to play them.

This is the view from my hotel room where we stayed at the Jolly Beach Hotel Resort. It was an all inclusive resort with various beaches and restaurants and buffets. I think we all got sick of the breakfast at Hemisphere's, but we enjoyed our time on the beach!

Back from Antigua!

I'm back safe and sound from the land of sun and sea! Here is a group shot of the students and faculty after our last meal on the island at a place called Abracadabra. I'm pretty tired after travel and such, so I'll post more pics later after I recover!

Spring Break! woo! Well, sort of...

I know it's been forever since I've blogged, but the first half of the spring semester is over (woohoo!). With the hellish Finance midterm behind me, I now we go into a one week period called Sloan Innovation Period and then into Spring Break. However, I've co-organized a study tour combining both weeks into a working trip to Antigua. How convenient! So I'll be gone from 3/18 to 3/27 balancing working on a projects for local businesses with outings including windsurfing, shopping, cultural intake, and sun bathing! Should it start to hail or blizzard next week, take comfort in the fact I am most likely swinging in a hammock sipping a virgin stawberry daquiri shielding the blinding sun from my eyes with my laptop. Life at Sloan is truly rough.... :)

I made it safely to California! Our hotel is in Palo Alto right near Stanford University. I am also proud to say that it only took me one hour in this state to have gone to IN-N-OUT burger already! Great fries and a burger "animal style"!

Brass Rat

Meet the Brass Rat, MIT's school ring. This white gold hunk o' junk illustrates life at MIT with a picture of a Beaver (Nature's engineer) surrounded by empty coffee cups and crashing stock market billboards. Apparently, it's the third most recognized ring in the world so if you see someone with it you can run away because it will cause some damage in a fight, or you can mug them because they are an easy MIT nerdy target. Take your pick...

Tonight was the Korean C-function where we all of Sloan comes together
to eat ethnic food and watch cultural events. Here are some of our

Thanksgiving dinner

Sloan hosted a huge thanksgiving dinner for the first year students.
It included turkey with all the fixin's including pecan and pumpkin
pie in the end. The only thing missing was the traditional baked ziti :)
